Have you come across the term POV YouTube and wondered what it means? POV stands for “point of view” and many YouTube creators use this model for their videos.
Some of the most popular POV YouTube channels consist of creators that walk around their city. New York City has a number of POV YouTubers.
I follow quite a few. Other popular POV channels are those that record themselves riding bicycles, doing parkour, or other types of sports.
There are even Disney POV YouTube channels where the channel creators walk around Disneyland or Disney World several times per week.
How a POV YouTube Channel Makes Passive Income
The primary way that many POV YouTube channels make money is with YouTube ads. Once these channels meet the requirements to be monetized and are approved by YouTube, the videos can earn revenue.
The more views a video gets, the more revenue it can earn. For example, one popular channel by ActionKid had over 300K subscribers and generates full-time income for the channel creator.
He spends his time walking around New York and the various boroughs. Since his videos get tons of views, he makes a full-time income from the ads displayed on his videos.
Another popular passive income model is sponsored ads. YouTube creators with popular channels are often approached by companies to advertise their products for a fee.
These sponsored ads can add tens of thousands of dollars per month to a creator’s monthly revenue stream.
Many POV YouTube creators will share the video equipment, gear, and software used to make their videos.
They will link to these products in their YouTube descriptions using affiliate links. When anyone buys these products after clicking on the affiliate links, the creator earns a commission.
Anytime a creator goes live, viewers are able to chat with the creator and other viewers within the chat box on the creator’s channel.
Viewers can send Super Chats or Super Stickers for any amount to show their appreciation to the channel creator.
Some creators can make anywhere from a few hundred dollars to one thousand or more during a single live stream.
How to Create Your Own POV YouTube Channel
It definitely helps to live in an area that others will find fascinating. A city like New York is a place that people from all over the world want to visit.
However, if you don’t live in a popular city, don’t despair. You can still record videos that cover your area and you can always travel outside of your city to other areas for additional content.
For example, another channel that I follow called Jaycation focuses on the city of San Diego as well as Las Vegas.
Getting started with your own POV channel is fairly easy. There are some things that you will need such as:
- Smartphone or video camera
- Microphone (wired or wireless)
Most creators will use their smartphone to record live videos and a separate video camera for standard YouTube videos.
Getting viewers will take time. You will need to post often and eventually, YouTube will begin recommending your videos.
Some of the POV channels that I follow post videos several times per week. Content creation is essential if you want to grow your channel.
YouTube Requirements for Monetization
Before you can begin earning income from your videos, you must meet some YouTube requirements for monetization. These include:
- Having 1,000 subscribers
- 4,000 watch time hours over the last 12-months
- Have your AdSense account set up
- Comply with YouTube policies and guidelines
An Alternative to a YouTube Channel for Passive Income
Although I have a YouTube channel, I understand that many people are hesitant or have no desire to create videos.
The good news is that there is another way to earn passive income without creating YouTube videos.
The way I’m referring to is creating niche affiliate websites.
It is how I got my start as a serious affiliate marketer and what I continue to do today.
Thanks to a niche website, I was able to transition out of a full-time retail job to work on my website full-time.
Of course, when I started out, I had no idea how to make money with a website. I did some research for an online training program and found this one.
I took action on everything that I learned and it made all of the difference for me.
How a Niche Affiliate Website Makes Money
Similar to a YouTube channel, a niche website requires new content on a consistent basis.
Just like videos attract YouTube viewers, blog posts attract free targeted web traffic. It is this traffic that can get your blog earning income.
You can promote affiliate products within your content.
For example, let’s say you really enjoy coffee. You make a niche website about how to make coffee and write about the different coffee beans that you try.
You can join different coffee affiliate programs. Each time you post a new blog post, you can link to these coffee affiliate products where appropriate using your affiliate links.
When people visit your blog, click on one of your affiliate links, and make a purchase, you can earn a commission.
It is one of the best ways to generate a passive income online.
